While speaking in a programme organised by Hotel & Restaurant Association, Katra (HRAK) Advisor to Lt Governor Baseer Ahmed Khan said that revival of Tourism in J&K is the top priority of the government.
Khan said that they are in the making of its SOPs and guidelines and every effort would made to revive it and bring it to the level where it was at one point of time.
“Keeping in view of this Covid crisis every step has to be taken very cautiously and carefully and that is why he is taking proper inputs from different quarters so that final draft be made and the things which are under his purview be done by him and rest be put up in the state advisory council,” he said.
He said that Katra is the base camp of Tourism of whole J&K state and our priority is clear that keeping in view of importance of Katra Vaishnodevi the concrete plan for channelizing ten million pilgrims and increasing their stay would be made and much emphasis on Katra would be made.
Earlier while speaking on the occasion Rakesh Wazir elaborated the points for revival, survival and sustance of Tourism in the erstwhile state including the fact that every year 10 million (one crore) people visit Vaishnodevi which is even more than the population of many countries of the world.
He emphasized that preference to investments which may add on to the Tourism potential of the state be made and cited the example of Gulmarg and Patnitop Rope ways in this behalf and asked that similar type of investments like Rope ways at other areas like Shiv Khori, Sanasar, Katra to Shanker Acharya etc.be made and likewise Start of light and sound show at Katra on the history of Maa Vaishnodevi be also be started.
Wazir said that department has stopped doing of Tourism registrations and their renewals and asked for its redressal at the earliest after removing the technical problems which are coming in it.
Kesar raised the issue of waiver of interest for the period when lock down was there and likewise asked for giving of some special package to hoteliers including salaries by the government to the employees.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Virender Kesar, Kuldeep Dubey said that Rs 10 crore separate water supply scheme for hotels at Katra which is already sanctioned be started at the earliest and likewise 4G should be started may be for educational and business purposes.
Khan listened the association members carefully and gave on spot instructions for matters like modernization of whole Katra electric setup and making of its proper report by the electric department, simplification of Tourism registration process, exploring the feasiblity of light and sound and ropeways at Katra and Shiv Khori and assured that sympathetic consideration would be given to rest of the points.
