Rahul alone is capable to lead Congress party with ideals: Ashok Bhan

‘Unabated turmoil, political turbulence in Kashmir rooted in denial of justice’

Speaking in a webinar meeting of Lawyers associated with Indian National Congress, Eminent legal eagle and Chief Coordinator AICC legal affairs Ashok Bhan said lawyers wedded to Congress Party ideology throughout the length and breadth of India are the asset as thinking arm of party.

“They are unanimous in urging the CWC and high command to appoint Rahul Gandhi as Congress President.”

Bhan said Rahul  alone is capable to lead the party with Congress ideals, aggression, pluralism modernism in current challenging times.

“He is emerging as the principal challenger to Modi-2:0 to take on its all out failures. The economy failure with dipping GDP to minus double digit levels, growing unemployment, farmers distress, erosion of institutional functioning by induction of right wing activists in the key positions and huge failure on woolly foreign policy in south Asian region and elsewhere.”

He said Modi-2:0 failure is palpable in Kashmir Policy.

“Kashmir deserves to be managed with a grand vision that can encompass a comprehensive process to resolve the imbroglio instead of dithering. PM Modi and BJP has alienated the people of JK especially of Valley, inflicting grievous hurt by scrapping the distinct status of the State, its bifurcation into two Union territories. Consequently, it has deprived the people of basic rights of equality, life and liberty,” the senior congress leader said.

He said the militancy in the Valley also seems to have developed an autonomous raison d’etre in the absence of a visionary and comprehensive policy.

"This is a worrying phenomenon for the nation and is viewed as a result of deep mass alienation caused by ad hocism and mismanagement of Kashmir affairs from time to time. The unrest in Kashmir has always been attributed to cross-border hostilities and terrorism. But the unabated turmoil and political turbulence in Kashmir is rooted deep in the denial of justice, disrespect to legitimate aspirations and frequent skullduggery resorted to by New Delhi,” says he AICC leader.

He said the changing character of the militancy is a serious warning signal that an urgent policy correction at all levels of governance, and a strategic shift, is urgently needed to prevent escalation and further radicalisation.

“Now Pakistan-China axis is emerging as a serious challenge not only in Jammu & Kashmir but to the sovereignty of the Country, as such the policy correction is an imperative necessity.”

Bhan said Kashmir analysts are surprised that New Delhi’s policy and its political managers are so incompetent, apolitical and naive, as not to be willing to leave any space or room for the Kashmiri leadership to exert a moderating influence that could prevent youngsters from taking up the gun.

“Kashmir has been on the boil for more than 30 years. Nothing substantive has changed in last almost seven years of BJP rule, except the handlers from left of centre to enthusiastic right wing protagonists. Tens of thousands of people, both civilians and soldiers have died and the population of Kashmiri Pandits exiled. Kashmir affairs are seemingly messed up.”

He said in the name of self-determination people have no voice of their own and the emotions are controlled and charged by proxies.

“The government should acknowledge that use of military force is not a solution to the complex situation of Kashmir. It has to be a blend of engagement and dialogue with all the stakeholders. It is the psychological, attitudinal, social, political and economic grievances that need to be addressed. Therefore, the government should worry more about winning back the trust of the people and let the terrorism be handled by the security forces.”

He said government needs to win the trust, hearts and minds of people of Jammu & Kashmir especially the Valley and put in place good democratic governance.

“Prolonged Governor rule is not the legitimate substitute to democracy.End it, sooner the better.”
