One unidentified militant was killed in the ongoing gunfight with the forces in Melhoora area of south Kashmir's Shopian district on Wednesday, Police said.
The gunfight broke out after a joint team of the Police, Army’s 55 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As per the Police, the joint team of forces approached toward the suspected spot and the militants fired at them which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
"One unidentified militant was killed. Operation is going on. Further details shall follow," Police said on its official Twitter handle.
A total of 184 militants have been killed so far this year in 78 anti-militancy operations in the Valley.
Policeman shot dead in Anantnag
Srinagar, Oct 19: A police officer was shot dead by suspected militants in Kenalwan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday.
Police said the militants attacked a police officer on Monday evening and injured him critically.
The injured police officer was shifted to a hospital but he succumbed on the way, the official said.
The slain police officer was identified as Inspector Muhammad Ashraf Rather of Sundpora area of Kanelwan in Anantnag.
He was attacked while returning home after the Magrib prayers.
Soon after the incident, a joint team of Police and Army cordoned the area to nab the attackers.
CRPF man injured in Pulwama grenade blast
Second attack on forces in two days
Srinagar, Oct 19: A paramilitary CRPF personnel was injured on Monday after suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a joint deployment of the forces near Gangoo area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
A Police official said the incident occurred Monday morning when a joint team of Police and CRPF were patrolling in Gangoo area of the district.
“One CRPF man was injured in the action and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said.
Following the attack, the area was cordoned to nab the attackers.
On Sunday, a CRPF man was among two persons injured in an attack after suspected militants lobbed a grenade at a joint deployment of the forces who were patrolling near the Sumo Stand Tral.
