A militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Chadoora area of Budgam district while Police arrested a militant associate from Ganderbal district on Monday.
A Police official said that groups of Police, paramilitary CRPF and Army launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Behrampora area of Chadoorain Budgam following intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.
He said the forces were conducting house-to-house searches when militants opened gunfire which was retaliated by the forces, triggering a gunfight.
“A militant has been killed in the gunfight. The operation has concluded,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir, V K Birdhi told Rising Kashmir.
Police has not yet confirmed the killed militant’s identity.
His identity is being ascertained, Birdhi said.
He said the snowfall posed a challenge in the anti-militant operation but there was no collateral damage.
Keeping in view the weather vagaries, sources said, additional troops were rushed to the gunfight site to strengthen the security layer and prevent the militant from taking any advantage for escape.
Meanwhile, Police said a militant associate was arrested in a separate operation in Ganderbal district.

“As per Police records, he has been assisting the active militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba operating in Ganderbal areas,” a Police official said.
