A Territorial Army man has gone missing while his car was found burnt in south Kashmir's Kulgam district, Indian Army said Monday.
Rifleman Shakir Manzoor has been missing since Sunday 5 pm and he is suspected to have been abducted by the militants.
"Rifleman Shakir Manzoor of 162 Battalion (TA), is missing since 5 pm yesterday. His abandoned burnt car has been found near Kulgam. It is suspected that the Army man has been abducted by the militants," Srinagar-based Chinar Corps tweeted Monday.
The search operation launched by the forces was underway to locate the missing Army man.
Shakir, a resident of Shopian district, was on leave to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha with his family.
According to reports, drones and sniffer dogs were pressed into service in the search operation.
The Army man's family has appealed the militants that he should not be harmed and returned safely.
Militants targeting Army men visiting homes in Kashmir has become a trend in south Kashmir since the first such incident occured three years ago.
In May 2017, Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz was kidnapped by militants when he was attending a wedding ceremony in Shopian.
Next day, his bullet-riddled body was recovered 30 kilometers from the wedding venue.
In June 2018, Army man Aurangzeb, who went home to Poonch for Eid celebration, was abducted and later killed.
