Anti-militancy ops intensify in Kashmir: DGP

‘Security arrangements worked out for Jan 26’

 The anti-militancy operations have been intensified in Kashmir with at least six operations taking place in last three weeks.
“At least half a dozen successful anti-militancy operations have been conducted by forces in Valley in 2020 so far,” Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh told reporters on sidelines of wreath laying ceremony of slain Special Police Officer (SPO) in Srinagar.
On Tuesday, an SPO Shahzad Ahmad and an Army man M Rahul of 50 Rashtriya Rifles were killed in an encounter with security force in Khrew area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district yesterday.
DGP said sacrifices of forces’ personnel, who lay their lives in the line of duty, would not go waste.
Singh said counter-militancy operations would continue in future as well and forces’ will continue to work with full strength for restoration of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to January 26, he said security arrangements have been put in place including in Srinagar to ensure smooth conduct of January 26 functions in the Valley.
“All arrangements have been put in place for smooth conduct of the functions,” he said.
Tuesday’s gunfight occurred a day after three Hizb militants were killed in a gunfight in Wachi area of Shopian district.
On January 13, a local militant was killed in a gunfight with forces at Behrampora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
On January 12, three Hizb militants were killed in a gunfight at Gulshanpora area of Tral in south Kashmir.
On January 7, a local militant was killed in a gunfight with forces at Chursoo area of Awantipora in south Kashmir.
