All their PSOs absent at the time of attack
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, his father and brother, also BJP functionaries, were killed by unidentified gunmen in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday.
The three were present outside their shop near Bandipore Police Station when they were shot dead at 9 pm.
The killed BJP leader was identified as Wasim Bari and his father Bashir Ahmad and brother Umar Bashir, all residents of Bandipora.
“Militants fired at the BJP worker Wasim Bari at Bandipora,” Police said. “During indiscriminate firing, his father and his brother also got injured and were shifted to a hospital but all the three succumbed to their injuries.”
According to sources, none of his 10 security guards were present around them at the time of the attack.
Bari was the ex-district president of BJP for Bandipora and in charge of the party's training department, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said.
Bari’s father had been also associated with BJP while his brother was party's coordinator for north Kashmir.
Termed the killings as “unfortunate”, Thakur said, “|This is frustration on part of the militants, who were facing heat of anti-militancy operations in Kashmir.”
A contingent of the forces reached the spot and cordoned off the entire area.
Searches were being carried out to nab the attackers.
Sources said the trio was at their shop when some unidentified militants opened fire at them.
They said the family had a component of 10 security personnel but none of them was with them at the time of the incident.
